One of the ladies from my work took flower arranging last semester.  She brought examples of her projects into work and got a few of us interested.  So this semester a number of us are taking the class with her.  I thought it would be fun to share the techniques we are learning.

April 26th, 2002 Circular Bouquet

Materials
Small vase
Two stems each yellow, pink and purple mums, myrtle (greenery).
1 stem red carnation, purple status
1 block oasis

This bouquet is composed primarily of mums. It uses standard contrasting colors of yellow, purple and red accents. The pick mum is new this year.

Instructions

First take the myrtle and cut into 2 to 3 inch stems.  Insert the stems into the oasis, covering completely.
Then take a yellow stalk and separate each flower stem from the bunch, leaving 1 flower on the long stem.
Measure and cut it so that it is equal to the height of the vase plus about an inch and a half.  Insert vertically into the center of the foam.
Now insert 2 yellow stems opposite from each other, horizontal, and inline with the tall stem.
Turn the vase and repeat.  You should have effectively quartered the arrangement.
Next take 4 more yellow flowers, place them each at a diagonal half way between the vertical and horizontal flowers.
You've now built the frame of the arrangement.
Fill in the frame with yellow, then pink and then purple mums.   Remember to turn the bouquet as you fill.
Add accents of red carnations and purple status.

Note:  To add interest to the bouquet remember to cut and insert the flowers at varying lengths..
